Marina Abromovic

Marina Abramovic’s work closely explores the relationship between performer and audience, the limits of the body, and the possibilities of the mind. I chose this picture because at first look at it I though it was kind of creepy looking. The center of attention is on her golden mask and the rest of her body is blacked out. The mask has gold leaf cuttings on it and a spot lights up her golden face while she stares blankly into the camera not even blinking. The still life pose that she takes on is characteristic of her later work where attrition and physical exhaustion are no longer the main themes. She wanted this image to represent a classical portrait creating the pose focusing on the color and light choices.
