Olafur Eliasson's "Your Spiral View"

Olafur Eliasson, "Your Spiral View," 2002, steel, Installation view, Fondation Beyeler, Basel

Known for his sculptures and installations, Olafur Eliasson harnesses the use of elemental materials such as light, water, and air temperature to enhance his viewer's experience. In "Your Spiral View," Eliasson uses light as reflected off of the steel sculpture to alter his viewer's perception of space. In almost an optical illusionary manner, Eliasson creates an interactive experience between his art and his audience that stimulates an interpersonal passage through this tunnel-like structure. Depending on the light shining through the opening and reflecting off of the steel plates bending in their 360 degree pattern, a different ambience is emitted, and therefore a different emotional response.

Cris Brodahl

I like this painting because it shows a lot of emotion. I think it was clever of the artist to use lips to make the eyes. I just think it is an over all neat painting.

Klemens Torggler

Austrian artist Klemens Torggler invents an "evolutionary door."
Klemens Torggler stuck to paintings before he started designing doors. His knowledge of the arts and movement shows in his door designs.

Maxi by Henrietta Harris

I picked this painting because I thought it was very interesting how the artist cut the boys head in half like that. Also when i saw that this painting was water color I was very impressed because it doesn't look like it at all. Everything looks very realistic. I also liked how the cut between the boys head looks like smoke. The artist also did the contrast of his jacket very well.

"Above The Law" by Michael Linares

I chose this picture by Michael Linares because I thought it was pretty cool how he used many types of mixed media to make it up. He used a aureum plant, helium, balloons and a pedestal to create something that looks kind of like a hot air balloon to me. Its also kind of neat how he got the plant to attach to the balloons without having them pop. I also liked all the different colors of the balloons, I think if he would of stuck to only one color it would have made it boring. The open-ended work of Michael D. Linares (b. 1979 San Juan, Puerto Rico) considers formal issues along with an emphasis on relational practice. He creates art that involves the interaction of the audience.

I chose both of these because I thought they were pretty. I like the colors in the first (Land Scape Emerald City). Although its dark and looks like a factory it still caught my eye. It also looks more mysterious than the second one Land Scape Riverside. LSR is more like a Vegas, New York, Tokyo rich look. I also like the colors in this one too; the brightness of the gold is what drew my attention to this one as well.
